March 2016 Newsletter

inverness to ryhnieThank you for signing up for Ride the North 2016.  I look forward to a new event format this August with a Rhynie-Inverness-Rhynie route on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th of August.I’d like to extend a special note of thanks to the sponsors our 2016 event (see 2016 jersey note below). Those who are based in our local area will appreciate that it’s been a difficult last year with considerable uncertainty and the continued support for the event, from both sponsors and participants, is greatly appreciated.

Final Call for Charity Riders

We have more protected charity places this year. We are working with a greater number of charity partners in 2016 and most still have a few places available. I appreciate I am sending this to those who already have places, but if you have friends, family or work colleagues who might want to join RTN this year, its not too late!  Charity places are posted here. I expect these final places to be closed at the end of March.

The 2016 Jersey

2016 jerThe RTN jersey is provided as a badge of honour for riding in the event – it always seemed a more practical memento than a medal or certificate. This year’s jersey will be a bright blue and we are aiming to supply it to you a few weeks before the event.

The jersey is produced with the kind support of sponsors. This year those who have supported our event have largely done so as part of their continued commitment to community and social responsibility. For 2016 we have doubled the amount of places protected for charities and are working with many more charity partners who provide support across the region of the event. Huge thanks to Walkers Shortbread, PD&MS Group, Marathon Oil, Core Oil & Gas, SureVoIP, Stena Drilling, Wood Group, Roy Cowie, Wilkinson Helsby & Stronachs who have supported the event in different ways over the past few years and have committed to being part of RTN again this year.

The jersey order will be placed on 4 April, so please ensure you have an accurate size listed before this date (see Your Data below).

The Pink Jersey Issue

Pink backThere has been an a bit of light-hearted lobbying for a PINK RtN jersey over the last two years! So, having disappointed some people on this front, we are offering an olive branch to the pink lobby. We will produce a limited edition supply of TWELVE pink jerseys – each of which will be auctioned for the benefit of the twelve charity partners we are working with this year.

Just to be clear, the cost of production/delivery of the jerseys will be funded by RTN, so whatever bid is made by the winning bidders, this sum will be paid direct to the charity. If pink is your colour, please email mairi@velodays.com by Wednesday 23 March. If you are making a bid, please specify whether you are happy for your bid to support any of our charity parters (found here) or whether you specifically wish your bid/donation to go to one specific charity.

Ride the North in Rhynie/Inverness

Camping smallThe Aberdeenshire village of Rhynie has had a strong association with RTN since 2012 and everyone who has taken part in the event will have been welcomed by the local community and by the Rhynie WRI who have taken on the considerable task of feeding riders. This year we are delighted that Ride the North will begin and end in Rhynie.

Rhynie, as local/returning participants will know, is a small rural village. There is no visitor accommodation in the village, but we will have facilities for camping/caravans for RTN weekend – contact neil@velodays.com to book.  Rhynie is less than an hour drive from most who live in NE Scotland and we will have car-parks operating in the village for participants and spectators.

In Inverness, we will have shuttle transport from the finish line to the city centre and secure storage for bikes at our event hub at Culloden Academy. Please ensure that you have your overnight accommodation in Inverness booked. Our transport service will have drop-off/pick-up near the station and handy for other transport if you have an onward journey.

Your Data

If the data we hold for you (that is the data you have entered or has been entered on your behalf) is incomplete, we aim to chase you up about that over the next few weeks. We do need details like your home address and your emergency contact details the event jersey will be sent out to the address stored.  I would like to avoid having to chase-up these details at the last minute when we also have to deal with other things.  If you login here http://www.ride-the-north.co.uk/login/ you can take 2 mins to check or update your details and then we wont have to bother you!

If you are entering with others, please do ensure that you have the same Team Code and have selected the same Start Wave …that will ensure we give you the same start time.

If you have any queries or questions, please get in touch.
