Route

RtN 2025 will be centred upon Glamis Castle in Angus

Ride the North 2025 is a single day event with start/end at the magnificent Glamis Castle in Angus. There are two route options of 150 km and 110 km (93/68 miles).

Taking place in the foothills of the Cairngorms, the route of RtN is never flat, so you might expect around 1850 m of climbing on the ‘150’ route and around 1250 m of climbing on the ‘110’ route. The route never reaches high altitude, but there are testing climbs that feature on both routes.

We work in partnership with  local communities to ensure you are well looked after along the way – meaning checkpoints with refreshments every 15 kms (or therabouts).

Around 100 km of the 110 km route will be common with the longer route. which makes it possible for riders doing different distances to do most of the ride together.

While there are two  ‘marketed’ route choices, the event format means that there are FOUR ways to do it.  All are equally valid (you just have to look yourself in the mirror and know you did the correct one for you)!!

The 110k route

The 2025 edition of Ride the North begins and ends at the magnificent Glamis Castle.

The route will be an anti-clockwise loop around the historic county of Angus. The route is set to feature Inverarity, Letham, Brechin, Edzell, Menmuir, Memus and Kirriemuir before returning to Glamis.

The (unconfirmed*) 110k route option can be found here https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2821955?units=km – This website is free to use, if you see anything that is asking you to subscribe that will be an advert (I’ve worked with the website to try and stop misleading adverts popping up on my shared routes).

The 110k route is effectively the 150k route with two short-cuts added! You can take one of these shortcuts and not the other (it’s allowed) …so that actually makes 4 valid routes. The hybrid ones will be 125k (if you take afternoon’s shorter option having gone longer in morning and 135k if you take the shorter option in the morning and opt for longer in the afternoon).

*We do not expect significant changes to this (unless unforseen events) but routes through towns will be confirmed in early August. NOTE – the route presented here may contain Brechin roads that are one way (the other way)!
